Local Initiatives

The Islington Early Years & Childcare Partnership, along with an inter-agency task group, has established measures to gather the views of local employers.

The organisation New Ways To Work undertook a survey and interviews with 10 of the borough's largest employers. The survey included questions about childcare needs of employees, information needs of employees and family friendly policies employers had adopted. The results indicated that these employers wanted

  • more information about local initiatives and the Partnership
  • more affordable childcare
  • more childcare information for their staff
  • more information on the benefits of family friendly employment practices

As a result 'Better Times for Business' was operated in 1999 and 2000. The project combined consultancy support and seminars for employers on a range of family-friendly issues as well as encouraging partnerships between larger and smaller employers and local providers.
